Kolloquium „Tracing Provenance in Italy. Navigating through Post-Unitarian Primary Sources and Archival Collections“

Am Montag, 26.10.2026

Ort: online via Webex
Veranstalter: Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste

The German Lost Art Foundation is pleased to invite you to the next event within the series „Kolloquium Provenienzforschung“.

On Monday, 26 October 2026, at 6 pm, we are pleased to present the newly published volume “Tracing Provenance in Italy. Navigating through Post-Unitarian Primary Sources and Archival Collections“ edited by Alice Cazzola (Heidelberg/Florence), Katharina Hüls-Valenti (Venice/Rome) und Madeleine Schneider (Munich). All three are members of the Working Group Italy of the Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung e. V. (Association for Provenance Research).

Following the guiding question Quo vadis provenance research in Italy? the volume brings together contributions of the second annual workshop of the Working Group Italy, which took place in September 2024 at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome. With 19 contributions grouped into 5 thematic chapters and 3 foci, the book brings together multifaceted approaches and case studies, outlining current developments in the field of provenance research in Italy.

In addition to focusing on historical contexts of injustice such as colonialism, National Socialism and Fascism, the publication provides insights into the rich, heterogeneous (in some cases unpublished) archival sources for Italian collection and art market studies. As a result of transnational and interdisciplinary cooperation the volume illustrates provenance research at both the academic and the practical level.

The event will take place as a video conference via Webex. Participation is free of charge, but only possible after registration by 23 October 2026. Participants will receive their access data on the day of the event.
